We hold our traditions and their inherent values dear, but we must acknowledge that tradition alone cannot address the formidable challenges before us. The time has come for us to cast aside outdated habits and welcome fresh approaches.

Tradition remains a treasured part of our heritage, but it should never impede our progress or compromise our fundamental rights. While the ethos of “doing more with less” has its merits, it must never come at the expense of our fair compensation, essential benefits, or our basic rights.

The pressing concern of the declining value of our hard-earned dollar, coupled with the ever-rising cost of living, demands our attention. We must act to safeguard the well-being of our members and their families.

It is imperative that we question the status quo and remain receptive to change that benefits our members. As new generations rise within the fire department and new city officials assume their roles, we must adapt to shifting perspectives and expectations.

The time has come to break free from the resistance of the past and embrace necessary improvements that align with the contemporary needs of our union. Our progress should harmonize with the evolving world around us. We hold the wisdom of past generations in high regard but must apply it wisely, not blindly.

Our journey is not a battle of old versus young; rather, it’s an acknowledgment that our dreams and aspirations have evolved. The sacrifices we make as firefighters, coupled with increasingly stringent educational requirements and rigorous training, rightfully deserve fair compensation.
